A project aimed at refurbishing schools and improving education standards in Nebbi distict has been launched.

The project called “God Loves Jonam”, is an initiative of Gospel Operation of Africa, a US faith-based non-governmental organisation.

Fred Jachan Omach, the finance state minister, launched the multi-million shillings project at Omach Primary School in Pakwach town council last Thursday. Omach is also the Jonam County Member of Parliament.

He said the first phase of the project will see 18 primary schools with dilapidated structures across Jonam County undergo major renovations.

Omach said lightning arresters will also be installed on these buildings.

He said as part of the project, pre-primary leaving examinations would be supplied to test the readiness of candidates for the Primary Leaving Examinations.

“I am happy that cultural and religious leaders are here to witness this project. It has nothing to do with politics or religion, but strictly development,” Omach said

He said the project is geared towards a holistic development of Nebbi and urged all stakeholders to embrace it.

Rev. Lawrence Fung, the deputy international director of Gospel Operation of Africa, said this is the first project they are undertaking in Uganda.

“When I came to Africa three years ago, I thought of doing something in one of the countries and I had to pray about which country it could be. Finally, I am happy I am in Uganda and above all in Nebbi,” Fung said.

Fung said they would ensure that the people of Nebbi grow into a sustainable community.
