ARUA district council on Thursday approved a budget amounting to over sh52b for the coming financial, year up from sh47b in the financial year 2014/15.
Read out by Kamilo Sabo the finance secretary, the education sector carries a whopping 63% of the budget followed by health at 10%, while works, technical services, administration and planning are other major areas that feature prominently with fair allocations.
However local revenue continues to feature dismally as it will only account to 1% of the total budget.
Over 90% of funds will come from the central government and donor funds occupy 8% of the budget.
Councilors while debating the budget before mostly focused on their sectors in a bid to get more funding.
A major debate erupted about a 15 million allocation for inland travels which many councilors disputed requiring the intervention of the vice chairperson to explain the usage of the big allocation.
The 15 million is part of a 44 million surplus after the line ministry revised its unconditional grants.
