In a bid to improve the housing needs in Kampala, National Housing and Construction Corporation (NHCC) has entered a joint partnership with Henley Homes Company, a UK based Construction Company to construct 350 units in Luzira near Lake Victoria.

During the signing ceremony at the NHCC offices in Industrial area, the NHCC board chairperson, Agnes Kadama Kalibala said it is an upper middle income project to be implemented with the use of new technology.

"These units are to be constructed using light weight steel with mortars in between. We realized conventional methods of using bricks were costly, labour intensive, consuming much time and space with less units," she explained.

She said the new technology is cheaper, reduces time of construction by 30% and consumes little space with more units.
Kalibala said initially they had planned 192 units in the same area with the old construction system estimating each unit to costing about sh600m. "With new technology, each house would cost about sh100million less," she added
