THE citizen’s survey on Uganda Vision 2040, a program implemented by Nation NGO Forum and supported by Uganda National Planning Authority to improve on the service delivery and development in Uganda was on Tuesday officially launched in Lira.

 

The program was implemented  in 2014 by  National NGO Forum Uganda  have been launched   in 34 districts  in Uganda  to monitor  and  evaluate  service  delivery  in sectors like agriculture, fishing, mining, transport  and  communication, health  sectors  and  education amongst  others.

 

According to Alfred Nuwamanya, head  of  program Uganda  National NGO Forum said the  program is looking  at  transformation  of education standard like  revising  the curriculum and  promoting  girl child  education and providing  relevant  text books  to both  private  and  government headed  schools

 

He said 8% of children from 6-13  years  drop out  of  school every term in Uganda  and more  than 15 % of female  pupils  and  students  failed to complete  their  studies  every year  in Uganda.

 

Basing on water resources  and  sanitation, Sophine  Kange, the  coordinator, capacity development officer in Uganda National NGO Forum said the program will also have  to increase on the  supply of clean piped water and develop large  water  reservoirs.

 

She  said  another  sector  which the  program has  to work hard  to improve  is  tourism which she  said many  Ugandans  have not learned of  various  tourist  attractions within their  locality.

 

The launch was  attended  by  the  National Coordinator QUAM Bonnie Kiconco  and  Nogom Christ , the manager  Lango NGO Forum and  the  resident  district  commissioner RDC Gorge Odung.

 

Kiconco said in the  work plan, the  program has  included the  LC5’s and  their vices,  the  RDCs and DPCs to monitor service  delivery and promote  the  standard  of  education and  water  supply, agriculture  and  mining.

 

However Lira’s RDC said there are more than 26 CDO’s and NGO’s particularly in Lira which are operating illegally without registrations.
