University gives Ugandans 40% discount on fees

International University of East Africa has announced special scholarship packages for the August 2013 intake.

International University of East Africa has announced special scholarship packages for the August 2013 intake, where all Ugandans will receive a 40% discount.

According to the new vice-chancellor, Prof. Dawoud Shenouda, international students will receive a 20% discount. “The offer is to last for the full duration of the course,’’ he said.

Shenouda also promised to lift the standard of education  in the university, with new courses designed to meet the challenges of the day-to-day dynamic job market.

Speaking at a press briefing at their Kansangabased campus, Shenouda named the new courses as mobile and satellite telecommunications engineering, mechatronics and robotics engineering, mining engineering and petroleum engineering.

The vice-chancellor said they had about  500 students from west, east and central Africa, Europe and North America. All first-year students are given a free laptop to enhance e-learning. Hassan Alwi, a member of the Board of Trustees, said the staff is sourced from Asia, North America and East Africa.

The univeristy is licensed by the National Council for Higher Education. It will hold an Open Day for the public on July 30.
