POLICE in Kiruhura have arrested Apollo Muzahura, a resident of Kitaziguluka village in Lyantonde district who has been collecting money from drug shops, claiming to be the National Drugs Authority (NDA) inspector for Western Uganda.

The district Police commander, Mworozi Byaruhanga, said Muzahura was arrested at Bijubwe trading centre in Kyakabunga sub-county where he had threatened to close all drug shops unless owners gave him money. He claimed the drug shops were not licensed and risked being closed.

Upon arrest, the Police searched Muhumuza and found him with a student examination card from Kabale Comprehensive Enrolled Nursing School.

“He had a forged an examination card for Kabale Nursing School, but he couldn’t even distinguish between an enrolled nurse and a comprehensive nurse. He couldn’t even tell what pneumonia is,” said Nasser Lubowa, NDA’s regional Inspector of drugs for southwestern region.

Police said Muhumuza would be charged with impersonation and uttering false documents.

Lubowa said they have received complaints from many parts of the country about such impostors. He said they recently arrested impostors in Kireka and Kira, Wakiso district.

He however, said the operation to crackdown on people selling counterfeit drugs and unqualified people selling drugs is still ongoing while over 500 drug shops have been closed in the region.
