THE Rugby Cranes, just like they left, sneaked back into the country yesterday morning from Madagascar where they suffered humiliating 52-11 and 48-32 defeats at the hands of Kenya and Madagascar respectively. The team was relegated to tier 1B of the continental rugby body.

Uganda will thus miss out on the final round of the 2015 World Cup qualifiers and they will embark on efforts to getting back to tier 1A next year.

However, before the rugby governing body (URU) starts laying strategies and making a report to the National Council of Sports (NCS) as per the Sports Act, NCS has cautioned them not to send any team out of the country without authorisation.

“We have written to them advising them not to repeat such a mistake. Whether we have funded you or not Council must be aware and authorise any team leaving the country,” said NCS general secretary Jasper Aligawesa.

“If any problem occurs like our players getting caught up in civil unrest in another country that will involve Government in order to evacuate the team. So it is always important to keep us abreast,” Aligawesa explained.

When contacted for comment, URU country manager Jacob Bukenya admitted that a mistake but promised to inform Council next time.
