The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has called upon leaders to look for those small things that unite their people, other than advancing the cause that leads to hatred and disunity and promised to tread that path in his term of office.

In a thanksgiving service that was held at St. Paul’s Cathedral Namirembe on Sunday, the Katikkiro also noted that the number of people in Buganda bear no impact unless it’s turned into an economic base for development.

The day’s preacher, The Rt. Rev. Michael Ssenyimba also called upon the cultural leaders to shun backward norms that add no value to the kingdom and instead build on those that are modern for the development of the country.

“In leadership, we should learn to seek those things that unite us, which are few, other than putting emphasis on those thing that disintegrate the whole society by causing hatred and division amongst the led,” Mayiga told the congregation.

“A lot of things cause hatred and disintegration but as leaders, we can choose to ignore them for the good of society and instead find those that will make us work and live together.”

“Let us dream big and set our targets high if we are to develop,” he advised before turning to the subjects.

“Your numbers will not make a difference unless   we turn it into financial power. If we have 100,000 people and each contributes sh10,000, we can be able to  put  up something that is reasonable  and that is the gospel I am preaching. The gospel of unity and development,” said the Katikiro.

“Let us learn to pull resources for the development of the church,” he appealed.

He said that the Katikkiro was appointed at a time when he was needed most to fight the immorality, corruption and other vices.

“Do it well with the power of the Lord,” he advised.
