Following the discovery of oil in the Albertine Graben new players in the area of water purification and soil treatment have entered the country.

The need for purified water and good soil for agriculture in the oil districts of Hoima, Masindi, Kibaale and Buliisa will emerge for growing population.

Bolton International is partnering with International firms to boost areas of agricultural mechanization through increased irrigation, water purification, solar heaters, power solutions and technologies, communication, health care and green technologies.

51.5 % of the rural population in the Albertine Graben live in absolute poverty with 90% of the households relying on forest resources for fuel wood. Experts have observed that the demand for renewable energy and clean water in the area whose annual population growth is 5.2% population growth is going to increase dramatically.

Environmentalists have noted that the reliance on natural resources for a living has worsened environmental degradation which if not controlled is likely to spark climate change driven humanitarian crisis in fifteen years.

“The world is changing and transforming at a very fast rate so we need to change the way we do business. With the advance of technology it is important that business is done in a more dynamic way,” said Zeev Shiff the Bolton international Chairman.

Zeev noted that with 53% of the households in the Albertine region using water collected from springs and streams, there is need to have increased purified and clean water in the region.

Shiff told the press at their Bugolobi premises that with the discovery of oil in the Albertine region demand for purified water will increase.

“Uganda is so blessed because it has a lot of water, but the water needs purification technologies. We intend to be there”, he says.

He noted that Bolton International would bring modern technology in the areas of energy, water treatment and increased agricultural mechanization.

The service that we shall provide will be the determinant for our entry and existence in Uganda and neighboring East African countries,” he said.

Zeev a founder of Balton Uganda in the 1990s said Bolton would also address soil treatment at the albertain region. “With Oil discoveries, there is likely to be oil leaks that will affect the water and soil. Bolton will address such issues,” he said.

Zeev said technological transfer in the areas of oil and gas coupled with agricultural mechanization and food security will be enhanced through skills transfer to Ugandans.

“We shall send people abroad for training and bring new and modern technologies to Uganda,” he said.
