KAMPALA - Uganda is set to host an investment conference will bring together an estimated 250-300 participants from the East African region and other regions on the continent.

The summit, which will run from May 11 to 13 in Kampala, is dubbed the “Concept note on the Ease of Doing Business Initiative (EDBI) in East and Southern Africa”.

“The conference will discuss how we can simplify doing of business in the region. It will be hosted by the ministry of finance and all government bodies that are supposed to facilitate investment will make presentations,” said Mary Kainobwisho, the director of business registration at the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB).

The theme of the conference will revolve around areas of focus for Uganda’s reform strategy which include starting a business, obtaining construction permits, registering property and trading across borders.

The conference is was thought out during the launch of the 2010 Doing Business Report in Rwanda in 2009, when countries requested the World Bank to facilitate forums for sharing doing business reforms.

Last year’s summit was held in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique.

Uganda is organizing the conference in partnership with the South Sudanese government which will coordinate the component on fragile and conflict affected countries.
