NSSF board chairman Ivan Kyayonka dies

The illustrious life and career of Ivan Kyayonka has come to an end after he passed away on Friday.

KAMPALA - The illustrious life and career of Ivan Kyayonka, a long serving personality in the energy sector, has come to an end after he passed away on Friday.

Sources said Kyayonka passed away in the Kenyan capital Nairobi where he was receiving treatment after suffering a  stroke.

Kyayonka has been board chairman of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and had the largest individual savings with the fund. 

For ten years, Kyayonka was the Country Chairman of Shell Uganda but had earlier been deployed in various positions by Shell  in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. ​

He joined Shell Uganda as a Graduate Engineer in 1982 and after apprentice training in the Netherlands and Germany.

In 2013, Kyayonka worked briefly as managing director for Vivo Energy Uganda, a company that distributes and markets Shell-branded fuels and lubricants.

Kyayonka was a leading cricketer, and was one of the Trustess of the Uganda Cricket Association. 

"He was a great pillar in Ugandan cricket serving as a national team player, chairman and Trustee among others. Its a great loss to the cricket family," said UCA official Justin Ligyalingi.
