Ex-Cranes coach Bobby now at Kenya's Gor Mahia

NAIROBI - Kenyan club Gor Mahia have appointed Scotsman Bobby Williamson as their new coach after agreeing a one-year contract, the club said.

The 51-year-old Williamson, who was sacked as Uganda's national football team coach in March, will fill the role vacated by Croatian Zdravko Logarusic who was fired in June.

"We are glad as a club to reveal that we have successfully engaged the services of Bobby Williamson as head coach," Gor Mahia secretary George Bwana said on the club's website.

Williamson, the former Kilmarnock, Hiberian and Plymouth manager, helped Uganda win three East and Central Africa (CECAFA) Senior Challenge Cup titles in 2009, 2011 and 2012 -- bringing their total tally to 13 victories -- and thus enabling Uganda to become the most successful nation in the history of the competition.

The Scot also twice came close to taking the Cranes to the finals of the African Cup of Nations but was dismissed after the team suffered a 2-0 to lowly Liberia in a 2014 World Cup qualifier in Monrovia in March, which dealt a blow to their World Cup hopes.

The defeat consigned Uganda to the bottom of Group J with two points.
