Gomba district gets new school

Emmanuel Katongole, the Rotary District Governor of Ugandan and Tanzania said, "In line with Rotary International’s motto Service Above Self, we felt obliged to give back to the community through the construction and donation of a complete primary school to assist the community members of Gomba district send their children to school, which will go a-long-way in creating an empowered community and hence reduce on the levels of poverty."

"As Rotary, we believe in a synchronized education relationship between the student, family, school and the community at large. For this reason, Rotary Club Bukoto is working closely with the entire community of Kabutemba sub-county to draw pivotal points at which proper connections within the education relationships can be made to ensure that the long-term goal of sustainable development is attained."

Yahennes Berhe, the current President of Rotary Club of Bukoto said that the donated school has a capacity to accommodate at least 150 students from Primary One to Seven at the same time. ‘This implies that by the end of 2016, Kabutemba members can boost of having some of their children completing the Primary Leaving Examinations within their community.’ 

Yahennes Berhe further noted that the former Presidents of Rotary Club of Bukoto that included Hon. Mike Kennedy Ssebalu and Dr. Grace Murindwa made a culture to champion the construction of a class block each at Kabutemba during their term of office. Emmanuel Katongole pledged a contribution of Five Million Shillings (5m/-) for the President Elect – Robinah Lutaya to kick start the construction of the next class block.

Hajji Abdul Kyabanji, LC V of Gomba District appreciated the gesture by the Rotary Club of Bukoto and pledged to lobby for teachers to be located to the school from the Ministry of Education and Sports.

In addition to the school donation, Rotary Bukoto members also held a free medical camp for members of Kabutemba sub-county during which they offered general check-up and treatment, free cancer screening, free HIV/AIDS testing, free malaria-diagnosis, free blood pressure check-ups among others.
