Buganda Road Magistrate's court has ordered the arrest of Kalungu District Woman Member of Parliament (MP), Florence Kintu for allegedly issuing false cheques amounting to sh9.9m to Nibya Company.

Chief Magistrate Olive Kazaarwe Mukwaya issued the warrant of arrest on Tuesday at Buganda Road Court after the MP failed to appear in court for plea taking.

Kintu is wanted for issuing two false cheques to Nibya Company, a money lending firm based at Kampala Serena Hotel.

She allegedly borrowed money in two phases and issued two postdated cheques of Equity bank to Nibya.

Court first issued criminal summons for the MP last month but she turned a deaf ear, which forced it to order for her arrest as a production warrant to court.

Prosecution alleges that in September 2012, MP Kintu without any lawful excuse presented two false cheques worth 9.9m to Nibya with instructions to draw money from her dormant account in Equity Bank.

“The MP at Serena Nibya office conference center issued an Equity bank Wandegeya branch cheque number 000014 and 000012 to account number 4200603675 which was dormant” prosecution added.

In a police statement, Rose Pdongo, the manager of Nibya Company said she banked the two cheques in Standard Chartered bank for payment but both bounced due to the dormant account.

“I called the MP and she never responded positively and all of a sudden started switching off my calls,” she added. She said that the cheques which had a face value of 9.9m had interest charges of 10% per month.   The case has been adjourned to July, 30 next month when the MP will appear in court for plea taking.
