11 nominated for MUK guild presidency

Article 9 Section (4) states that Guild and GRC elections shall take place on different days determined by the Electoral Commission but within the first 50 days of the semester

11 students from different political parties have been nominated to contest for Makerere University Guild Presidency.

 

The candidates are: Michael Opoya (B.Cox), David Bwiruka Bala (social sciences), Festus Tusiime Bamwoya, Latimah Kayondo (law), Henry Lubega ( Ethics and Human Resouce), Musa Mwine (FDC), George William Mukula (Law), Sarar Namulindwa (DP), Ivan Ssentongo (NRM), Kenneth Seruuma and Andrew Baguma (independent).

 

The nomination exercise that was conducted by the Institution’s Electoral Commission started on February 20, ended Monday evening. The guild elections, are being done in fulfillment of the guild constitution.

The Public Relations officer of the Electoral Commission told New Vision that the list of the nominated will on Tuesday be taken to the office of the academic registrar for verification.

 

“The candidates that will be found with retakes will be disqualified. Our job was to receive their credentials. They should all be on normal progress and with no criminal records,” he said.

 

According to the election programme, official campaigns will begin on February 27 at Livingstone Hall from 3-6 PM. The rallies will continue up to March 12, and will officially end with one at the Freedom Square.

 

Elections will then be conducted on March 13, 2015.
