The Ministry of Internal affairs is to open two regional offices for passports issuance.

Mbarara and Mbale centers will be operational by July I, 2013, the Spokesperson directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control (DCIC), Jacob Siminyu revealed.

In the past, Ugandans had to travel from upcountry to Kampala to apply for passports at the Ministry of Internal Affairs where the Immigration department is housed.

DCIC is mandated to facilitate legal and orderly movement of people to and from Uganda.

It also verifies and process Ugandan citizenship, enforces immigration laws for the security and development of Uganda, as well as registration and issuance of the National Identity Cards.

Siminyu said they intend to make their services more accessible to every Ugandan.
