Four city health centres have received medical equipment worth sh42m.

The health centres are Komamboga, Kasangati, Namungalwe and Namalemba.

The equipment include examination couch, patient bed with back rest and castors, delivery bed, mattresses with PVC cover, adult ward screens, panels, sterilizers drum, BP unit, mercury and mucus extractors.

Others are infant weighing scale, baby instrument set, glucometer optium and glucose test strips.

The equipment was handed over by the Rotary Club of Kampala North aimed at addressing maternal and child health care.

While receiving the equipment at Komamboga health centre, the Kampala Capital City Authority director of public health and environment, Dr. David Serukka, said the equipment will go a long way in helping the health workers to attend to patients promptly.

He urged the health workers to put the equipment to good use.

The equipment was purchased by Drexel University with support from Rotary International intended to build the local capacity in maternal and neonatal health in the communities living around the health centres.

According to Catherine Nabbanja the senior nursing officer of Komamboga health centre the unit has been having one delivery bed and therefore, the second that was given to them will aid in the delivery of new born babies.

She said pregnant women have been delivering from the floor due to lack of beds, she however, said even the second bed is not enough.

Present at the handover ceremony were the medical team from Drexel University headed by their team leader Terry Reed, Dr. Deo Sekimpi, Prof. Josephat Byamugisha the head of department obstetrics and gynecology Makerere University College of Health Science community leaders and health workers.
