Mercy Chelangat proved that she had a place on the national team after finishing fourth in the 83rd edition of the Cinque Mulini in San Vittore Olona in Italy senior women race on Sunday.

The junior runner from Police , who finished second in the MTN Kampala marathon 10km and  Bukwo 8km senior women  race, put up a good on a muddy and slippery course.

Chelangat  joined the leading quartet formed by Britain's Caryl Jones, Italian steeplechase champion Valeria Roffino and  Kenya's Violet Jelagat early in the races until the last lap when the increased pace saw Jelagat pull away from the rest.

Felix tried to push but it was too tight and Jelangat went on to win by over 30 metres in 24:40. Felix finished 22 seconds behind, followed by Roffino at 25:10 before Chelangat came in fourth at 25:22.

UAF secretary Beatrice Ayikoru was impressed by the performance of Chelangat.

"That is a good result. She is a junior but she was competing as a senior and we believe that the technical team can have him on the junior team," said Ayikoru after the race.
