Sheraton to attract more tourists

 Uganda is among the top 20 global tourism destinations, according to the National Geographic. The National Geographic is an international travel channel affiliated to the National Geograpic Society.

Unlike the lonely planet, which named Uganda as the best travel destination for 2012, National Geographic listed Uganda among the top “new year's 20 must-see places.”

Earnings from tourism are expected to exceed $2 billion (about sh5.3 trillion) per annum in the next few years, according to projections from the tourism Master Plan launched at the weekend.
 
The projected earnings ($2b) are about a third of the 2014-15 annual budget, a figure which highlights the immense contribution the sector will have in the future surpassing almost any sector before commercial oil production begins.
 
The plan prepared with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) also forecasts the creation of more than 150,000 additional tourism jobs by 2024, almost the same number that will be created at full peak of commercial oil production.

Among the new appointments include the Executive Assistant Manager-Karim Fahmy and Jenifer Musiime, the director sales and marketing who joined the hotel last September.

Karim Fahmy acknowledges that there is need to appoint a new chef every two or three years to keeps the hotel business booming because hotels thrive most on the best and tasty foods.

“Customers will need to have a new chef every 2 or 3 years. Some body with new ideas in the foods and beverages department because this is the core value of the hotel industry,” Karim said.
