State minister for primary health care, Sarah Opendi, has asked health service providers to make their messages clear to the public to reduce risks of health infections in society.

“We need to provide the population with the right and accurate information during these outreach  programmes because everyone has a right to make an informed decision as regards to reproductive health.” Opendi said.

She added that health providers need to clarify such issues as circumcision reducing the risk of HIV/AIDS infection to up to 60% and not total prevention as some sections of the population have been made to believe.

“It’s not about having a big client load in the clinics when their health is being compromised and telling people to use condoms with ‘side dishes’ poses a threat to our social values,” she added.

The minister made the remarks at the 57th annual general meeting for Reproductive Health Uganda (RHU).

Opendi noted that the way some health messages are packaged in adverts and literature is so risky to the public.

She however, commended RHU for the 57 years of reproductive health services to the population adding that they have been a dependable partner with the government.

RHU executive director, Jackson Chekweko, noted that the civil society organizations are pathfinders that exist in hard to reach areas.

“One of the outstanding contributions RHU has made to the health sector is the male involvement in reproductive health which has risen to over 42%,”said Chekweko.

Mityana Woman Member of Parliament Sylvia Sinabulya was elected the new chairperson taking over from MP Chris Baryomunsi.
