Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has acquired a $30m (about sh77b) loan from the Africa Development Bank for the reconstruction of Kawempe and Kiruddu health centre IIIs.

According to Robert Kalumba, the KCCA assistant spokesperson, the project is expected to start before the end of the year.

“The groundwork for the projects is expected to start at the end of the year. It will take three years to complete,” he said.

Kalumba added that the two health centres receive about 300 patients everyday, yet they have a capacity of only 10 beds each.

He said the facilities will have a capacity of 170 beds each, of which 40% will be dedicated to maternal health departments.

The development comes after Naguru Health Centre III was rehabilitated to hospital status with funding from the Chinese government in 2011.
