Hakim Tumwesigye, the promoter who contracted singer Iryn Namubiru has finally spoken out on the singer’s drug scandal.

Tumwesigye said that he is not on the run as some people and media houses are claiming because he is ignorant about the drugs that the singer was arrested with at Narita International airport in Tokyo, Japan on May 3.

“I am not on the run otherwise I would not be here with you to have my say; I lost over Sh64m in this project and I consider to sue Iryn Namubiru and her manager for that loss,” said Tumwesigye.

Tumwesigye works and stays in Japan and deals in used cars which he imports to Uganda among other African countries.
He said that he has never spoken to Iryn because his communication and payment was through her manager and Brother Thadeus Mubiru because he blocked him from talking to the singer saying that he is to finish everything.

“I just sent someone who gave 4 kilograms of Maganjo posho and g-nuts to Namubiru and when Mubiru called me to ask what was in the bag, I simply told him that if he was suspicious; he should remain with the luggage and buy the stuff from somewhere else and give them to Iryn,” said Tumwesigye.

Tumwesigye says that his name and image has been tarnished in whole turn of events yet he had nothing to do with the illegal drugs that Namubiru was arrested with.

“I lost my money and now the stories have turned to me that I fled Japan and on the run! I scheduled to travel to Uganda on May 7 2013 and I have emails and communications from Emirates to prove this,” said Tumwesigye.

He said that since Tuesday when he arrived in the country he has tried to contact Mubiru and find a way forward but he (Mubiru) has been avoiding him.

“I have been calling him and sent him messages but he does not pick my calls and reply my messages,” said Tumwesigye.

When we contacted Mubiru on phone he said that he was advised by Police and Interpol not to comment on the matter.
