A local player has entered breweries manufacturing industry and has paid sh1.2b in taxes to Government coffers.

Davon Dalyn has injected sh7b into its manufacturing plant based in Mukono district and it has created an employment of over 1500 workers.

George Baguma, the chairman of the new local breweries player, said the company has remitted sh1.2b in taxes.

The breweries industry in the country remits about sh300b in taxes and employs over 200, 000 Ugandans right from the farmers’ level.

Baguma said the new local breweries player will maintain high standards of their product.

“We are in position to offer our customers value for their money through sustainable business growth and guaranteed brand quality,” Baguma said.

The new breweries products are branded in four liquor brands and packed in bottles.

The four brands include vigor, legitimate whisky, victoria dry gin and Great Lakes special dry gin.

The new product ingredients contain materials from local companies in Uganda and natural flavours imported from Europe and Asia.

Baguma informed journalists that the company has recruited a team of very competent and quality control specialists who are directly in charge of quality assurance and control of all the products before they are released to the market.

“In order to build consumer confidence in our products, the management of Davon Dalyn has submitted several products for laboratory analysis to Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) to ensure compliance with all Uganda standards specifications of producing alcoholic drinks as well as the administrative and technical regulations governing the spirit sector,” he said.

He also said the company will not engage in the packaging and production of the four brands in sachets.

He said the move is aimed at protecting and preserving the environment as well preventing school going children from accessing it.

“We shall continue to package all our brands only in glass and plastic bottles,” he said.

Baguma said the new breweries player will venture into exportation of its products to Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, and South Sudan.

Sudeep Mohanty, the chairman of Uganda Alcohol Industry, lauded the new player in the market for creating employment for Ugandans and urged the company to join the association to promote responsible drinking among Ugandans.

Aston Kironde, an official from the Uganda National Bureau of Standards, commended the new local player for maintaining quality assurance.

“We are happy that the company has a laboratory for ensuring quality assurance and adherence to high standards,” Kironde said
