Renowned Nigerian actor Muna Obiekwe dies

Nigeria and Africa as a whole are in shock from the news of the death of popular Nollywood actor, Muna Obiekwe.

The actor is said to have died of kidney failure on Sunday in an undisclosed hospital in Lagos.

Rumours of his death had been the talk of Lagos over the past few weeks.

Obiekwe is known mostly for his roles in romantic movies.

Notably, he will be remembered for his controversial role in the movie, Pregnant Hawker where tabloids claimed that co-actress Biola Ige accused him for grabbing her ‘chest area’.

News of the actor's death spread on social media on Sunday, the day he is said to have breathed his last.

There also emerged reports that the Enugu-based film celebrity had been ill for some time, but that being a private person, he had kept his friends and colleagues in the dark.

Following news of his demise, a fake Twitter account @MunaObiekwe caused confusion by denying Obiekwe's death but later came out clean and tweeted an apology for its actions.

"Anyway, sorry guys for d deceit, Munaobiekwe is truly dead and I'm signing out from this account... . Sorry guys."

Obiekwe is survived by a wife and children.
