Six people, including four brothers were Monday charged with the recent murder of two top Muslim clerics. They also face another charge of attempted murder, terrorism and crimes against humanity.

 

 


The Muslim Tabliqs were charged in Nakawa Court in Uganda's capital Kampala, and were later escorted by prison warders.

 

 


All the six, whose offenses carry the death penalty upon conviction, allegegly murdered Sheikh Dactoor Abdu Kadir Muwaya of Mayuge and Sheikh Mustafa Bahiga of Bwebajja on Entebbe highway. Sheikh Muwaya was gunned down on Christmas Day and Sheikh Bahiga three days later.

 

 


The suspects were driven away on a pick-up truck guarded by heavily armed police.

 

 


Relatives of the charged men prayed at the court and demanded to talk to the accused amidst heavy security mounted by the police and Prisons personnel.

 

 


 


Some of the relatives of the suspects could not control their emotions, and left nature to take its teary course.

 

 


Meanwhile,  a total of 617 boda boda motocycles were seized in an operation to clamp down on lawless cyclists in Kampala city.  Pictured here is the commandant of traffic police in the Kampala Metropolitan area, Norman Musinga arresting a boda boda cyclist on Jinja road.

 

 


The operation is targetting cyclists who violate traffic rules and regulations in and around the city. In September 2013, the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) registered 30,000 commercial motorcycles, but it is estimated that over 60,000 bodabodas ply the city streets and suburbs.
