KAMPALA - Rev Simon Peter Omoding has advised Christian prisoners of Luzira Maximum Security Prison to surrender their lives to Jesus Christ, saying the Lord is the only one who knows for sure why they are behind bars.

“The Lord knows your files, He knows your hearts and the challenges you go through,” he preached during a church service inside the incarceration facility on Thursday – Christmas Day.

He told the inmates that Jesus was sent to liberate them so they leave prison better people.

He derived his message from the biblical book of Luke (2:1-40). And the congregation listened on attentively, some in deep prayerful reflection.

The cleric preached thus: "When the savior was born in the city of Bethlehem, he was sent by God the father to release humanity from sins to set us free. He is a Savior who sets captives free and his Kingdom will reign forever.

‘Mend fences with God’

The inmates were reminded to atone for their sins as they served their respective jail terms.

“Cast your burden unto Jesus. Pray and ask God for forgiveness and make peace with the people you wronged. This will enable you reconcile with those you offended.”

During the sermon, Johnson Kamya Wavamuno (pictured above, front row left in yellow, receiving Holy Communion) confessed that some of them ended up in prison because they were not mentored by the churches outside.

He is serving a life sentence for robbery and murder.

"We came to prison as sinners but with the guidance of prison ministries and the rehabilitation services offered by prison authorities, we are now transformed and capable of living responsible lives,” he admitted.

The prisoner added: "My sojourn in prison has taught me a lot and has given me an emotional experience that made me renounce my old habits and embrace salvation.

“I want to use the rest of my days on earth to mend fences with God.”
