Brig. Tumukunde guilty

The General Court Martial Thursday convicted Brig. Henry Tumukunde on charges of conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline of the defense forces.

The General Court Martial Thursday convicted Brig. Henry Tumukunde, former head of the Internal Security Organisation on charges of conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline of the defense forces.
 

He has however, been acquitted on charges of spreading harmful propaganda.

Tumukunde was charged under the Uganda People’s Defence Forces Act 2005 on May 2005 following a statement he made on a local FM station in Kampala without the proper authorization of the proper army channels.

The court is yet to pass its sentence but under the Act, an officer convicted of conduct prejudicial to the army is liable to  dismissal with disgrace from the army.

Throughout the trial that has been presided over by five court chairpersons since 2005, Tumukunde Tumukunde who is the former director of Internal Security Organizationhas always protested his protracted prosecution.
