Nswanjere seminary prepares to mark Golden Jubilee

Nswanjere Junior Seminary has started preparations to raise over sh400m needed to mark its Golden Jubilee set for next year.

Nswanjere Junior Seminary has started preparations to raise over sh400m needed to mark its Golden Jubilee set for next year.

The school will at the same time be remembering 48 years of the death of its founder, the late Archbishop Joseph Kiwanuka Nakabaale.

Its Rector, Rev Fr. John Bosco Kiggundu, said in a meeting held at Pope Paul VI Memorial Center during a meeting that featured Old Boys, parents, well-wishers and friends that  the institution need everyone’s participation and generosity to see the milestone through.

“In an effort to raise these huge sums of money, we wish to appeal to all the old boys of the school, Parents, God-loving and all people of good will including the business community to give us a generous hand, so that we are able to hold an occasion marking 50 years of the school’s existence in the most befitting manner,” Fr Kiggundu said.

He pointed out that the funds need to be raised by February 2014.

Part of the work will is directed to renovation of the school and others seminary projects ahead of the historic event.

The theme of the event will be: “Nswanjere Junior Seminary the Lord’s Vineyard - 50 years of Archbishop Kiwanuka’s dream –February 1964-2014”.

Nswajere seminary prepares and trains young Catholic men towards the direction of priesthood, and is known for its contribution to the welfare of the poor in the community.

Located 34-km along Kampala-Mityana road in Mpigi district, the seminary was opened 49 years ago by the then Archbishop of Kampala, Kiwanuka Nakabaale.

Its vision from its very inception was to cater specifically for young men from Mpigi, Mityana and Kampala Districts.

It has produced more than 200 priests including Bishop Joseph Anthony Zziwa of Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese and thousands of other laymen in responsible positions of Government, private sector and the business community.

“We have opened a bank account in the Centenary Bank under the name of Nswanjere Seminary Golden Jubilee Account number: 3820400482,” Fr. Kiggundu revealed.
