The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje, has blasted Muslims in Hoima district who want to grab land belonging to the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC).

He said the land belongs to all Muslims in the area and called on Muslims to work with the acting district Kadhi, Sheikh Musa Mabanja, to develop Islam in Bunyoro sub-region.

Mubajje, who was on a four-day working tour of the western and West Nile regions, said this while addressing Muslims at Bwikya Islamic Centre after leading Juma (Friday) prayers.

He explained that the land in Bwikya belongs to the UMSC.

During the tour that ended on Monday, Mubajje visited UMSC projects, met Muslim leaders, students and government officials in Hoima, Koboko and Yumbe districts.

In Koboko and Yumbe, Mubajje installed the new district kadhis, Sheikh Abubakar Songa and Sheikh Al-hhay Swaib Aciga respectively, in ceremonies attended by jubilant Muslims.

He asked the new kadhis to promote unity and development among the Muslims and called upon politicians to avoid interfering with Muslim activities for their selfish motives.

Mubajje promised to establish a Muslim FM radio station, preferably in Yumbe district to cover the West Nile region.

“This business of having few children, the Marriage and Divorce Bill and homosexuality are here to ruin our country as well as religion so we should reject them” said Mubajje.

He added that they were western-oriented tendencies meant to destroy humanity which Allah, through the Koran, tries to preserve.

Special presidential adviser Beatrice Byenkya called upon Muslims in Hoima to unite and avoid being used by self-seekers.

Yumbe district Woman MP Oleru Huda told Mubajje that with over 80% of the population being Muslims, the district should be given special consideration when it comes to distributing scholarships and other opportunities, including employment.
