AS FUFA embark on the search for a new Cranes coach following the sacking of Bobby Williamson, Government has expressed interest in lending a hand.

While addressing Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) members at Lugogo on Monday, Sports State minister Charles Bakkabulindi was informed about Williamson’s termination to which he responded by expressing need for Government involvement.

“I am yet to be informed about Bobby’s sacking and some of you have been asking me why we were not sacking him. There is no way Government can only participate in the sacking of a coach when we were not part of the recruitment process. We have not even been responsible for his upkeep,” Bakkabulindi argued.

He told sports journalists that Government would love to get involved in the recruitment and maintenance of the next coach.

“We know what to do and would love to invest in sports but we have been financially constrained. But now things are getting better because there is some level of investment in sports infrastructure. I keep advocating for more funding and with time we shall get to the desired level,” he explained.

Bakkabulindi complained to sports journalists for blaming him for everything that goes wrong in sports and advised them to cross check information before publishing it.
