The minister for the Presidency, Hon. Frank Tumwebaze, has told mayors to put aside their political differences in order to carry out their roles effectively and efficiently.

Speaking at the Kampala Capital City Authority gardens on Friday, he said: “You should put aside all your political differences and perform your duties, as this is what is expected of you from the electorate.

“Can we focus on what our people need and be servants whom they elected to bring the much needed change? Can we look for more ways of improving the services that we offer?”

He made the remarks while handing over official vehicles to the five urban council mayors of Central, Nakawa, Makindye, Kawempe and Rubaga divisions.

The mayors have been using personal vehicles for official work and receiving an allowance of sh2m per week.

The 15 new cars worth sh180m, come with a fuel allocation of sh70,000 per week.

Tumwebaze promised to meet all the mayors to help sort out some of the issues affecting their divisions.

“I will organise a meeting with you to resolve some of the issues affecting you,” Tumwebaze said.

The mayors appreciated the efforts of the Government in facilitating their movements.

“I think now we are going to perform our duties better with these vehicles,” Nakawa Mayor, Benjamin Kalumba, said.

“I appreciate what the Government has done for us. We shall carry out our duties,” Central Division mayor, Godfrey Nyakana, said.
