Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has finally cleared the 400 containers belonging to Ugandan traders that had been held.

The goods which were recently seized at Mombasa Port with Kenyan authorities demanding for custom duty include: sugar, edible oil, second hand clothes and shoes, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks among others.

The clearance of the goods follows a two-week ultimatum issued by the Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA) to KRA to release their goods or they divert their containers to Dar-er-Salaam Port in Tanzania.

According to a statement issued by Kenyan Commissioner of Customs, Beatrice Memo, clearance of goods was done through the transit regime which was used previously before the introduction of Single Custom Territory.

KACITA chairperson, Everest Kayondo, has said that the custom duty will be paid to Uganda Revenue Authority.
