Top squash seed Michael Kawooya led the Ugandan charge after storming the first round of the Kenya Open in Nairobi.

Kawooya outclassed Kenya’s Joseph Munyasya 3-0 as four Ugandans reached the first round of the prestigious international event.

Kawooya’s feat was matched by compatriots Paul Kadoma, Brian Okum and Ian Rukunya.

Kadoma beat Khifran Amaan (Kenya) while Okumu defeated Abubaker Chaudry in the qualifying round of the event which has drawn leading international stars.

Lawrence Matovu was the only unlucky Ugandan player who fell out in the qualifying round after losing to Billy Jusa.

Kawooya was due to take On Jusa Bruce in his first round that was due to start on Tuesday.

Kadoma launches his bid to the second round when he takes on Leon Keya of Kenya later today.
