Despite impressing during his trial stint with South Africa side University of Pretoria, former Uganda Cranes winger David Obua will have to endure a longer return to topflight soccer.

The former South African club Kaizer Chiefs and Scottish club Heart of Midlothian player will not be able to sign for the Pretoria-based club because it has exhausted its quota for international players.

Clubs in the South Africa Premier league can only sign a maximum of five foreign players.

Obua had been training with the club for the last couple of weeks with ambitions of returning to the Premier Soccer League this season.

“He’s coming on. In the last week he’s come on and we’re looking at him for the future. We’re monitoring him, he’s improved and he’s done well. We can’t sign him yet, so it’s a bit on the back-burner, but we are having a look at him for maybe next season,” University of Pretoria team assistant coach Sammy Troughton told www.soccerladuma.co.za.
