Priest charged with murdering four

Five people including a catholic priest in Isingiro district have been arrested and charged in court following the murder of four people in a suspected land wrangle.

Five people including a catholic priest in Isingiro district have been arrested and charged in court following the murder of four people in a suspected land wrangle.

Fr, Cleophas Ensiyaitu, a parish priest of Birunduma Parish in Rugaaga Sub-county,Mbarara Archdiocese was on Thursday charged with murder by the Isingiro Grade one magistrate, Patrick Talisuna  and remanded to Mbarara central prison

He was charged together with other four, suspects, Everlist Ssentongo, a head teacher at Burunduma Primary school, Lawrence Ssemanda, the LCI chairperson Nyamiyonga, Prophet Naturinda all from Rugaaga Sub-county in Isingiro district.

Ensiyaitu will return to court on April30.

Court heard that the accused were arrested on Monday morning in connection with the murder of Hajj Muhamad Kiiza Mpindi and his two family members and a porter.

Mpindi 57, a business man in Kampala, was last Sunday shot dead together with his sister,Assiyat  Nakato 61,her nine-year-old daughter, Sumaiyah Namubiru and Innocent Katongore their porter on the family farm land.

The attackers left other three family members, Wasswa Mpindi Edrisa Ssekimpi and Sulah Kalyango nursing serious injuries in Mbarara hospital.

The victims were attacked by unknowngunmen dressed in army uniform.

Mpindi who owned other houses in Nyamitanga, Mbarara and Makerere, Kavule, Kampala, has been involved in a land dispute with neighbours.

Three of the family victims were buried in Mpindi’s home at Nyamitanga, Mbarara.

Martin Abilu, the Rwizi region Police commader, said police dog tracked suspects and led them to suspects’ homes.
