Like any true General, President Yoweri Museveni is not about to send his troops into battle without a few tips.

Museveni took some time off his busy schedule to tell the Cranes to make the best of set pieces.

Uganda faces Guinea tonight in a decisive encounter to determine whether Uganda can end a 36 absence from the final tournament of Africa’s biggest competition.

“Our boys need to position well during corner kicks because in the games against Ethiopia and Ghana, we got two goals from such set pieces,” Museveni told Coach Milutin Sredojevich on phone Tuesday morning.

The president then told Sredojevich that he will be following the match. The Africa Cup of Nations qualifier starts at 7pm in the Moroccan city of Casablanca.

After the presidential call, the team was psyched up. “The whole team is eager to play their hearts out and get a good result to see Uganda qualify,” said team captain Andy Mwesigwa.

Mwesigwa called upon Ugandans to keep their fingers crossed and pray for the team to qualify because it has been a long wait.

The Cranes are second in Group E with seven points, while Guinea has the same number of points, but with an inferior goal difference.

In-case of a draw Uganda will qualify for the 2015 Afcon on a better goal difference and head to head.

Ghana who took part in the 2014 World Cup, lead the Group with eight points and will need to win against Emmanuel Adebayor’s Togo in the last Group game on Wednesday.

After their humiliating 4-1 loss to Guinea last weekend in Lome, the Sparrow Hawks have promised to come back strongly against the Black Stars.

Uganda takes on Guinea in the Moroccan city of Casablanca in a match determining whether the Cranes can end a 36-year absence from the Africa Cup of Nations final tournament.

Museveni last year gave local soccer governing body FUFA sh943m to transport the team and 154 fans for the crucial encounter.

A total of sh559m of this money was for chartering a fans’ plane to Marrakesh, Tunisia.
