The ministry of works and transport has contracted Mantrac, to repair and fix the damaged parts for MarineVessel (MV) Kalangala.

MV Kalangala that plies Nakiwogo landing site in Entebbe and Lutoboka in Kalangala daily has been grounded for about two weeks after developing mechanical problems.

Suzan Kataike, the ministry spokesperson, said the vessel now awaits repairs to meet the minimum safety requirements and appealed to passengers to stay calm as the problem is already being handled by experts.

“Passengers travelling to and from Kalangala should for the time being use alternative means of transport as the MV Kalangala is being repaired. We must ensure that the vessel is in sound condition,” said Kataike.

Bernard Khabakha, a senior inspector of vessels with the ministry, said the ship developed a problem with the camshaft and soon the problem will be solved.
