Uganda’s Sharif “The Lion” Bogere improved on his boxing stats after knocking out Mexican Fernando Garcia in the junior welterweight division in the US.

The fight was a Golden Boy Promotions and Fox Sports undercard of the Danny O’Connor and Andrew Farmer 12-round welterweight fight at the Memorial Hall in Plymouth, Massachusetts. O’Connor won by a TKO in the fourth round.

Despite Fernando Garcia (30-6-2) having a better reach to Bogere (25-1), his Ugandan opponent was more aggressive and his body punches saw him score enough points early in the bout, dodging the Mexican.

Bogere hit his rival hard, including an uppercut from the left, and Garcia was saved from a referee’s count by the gong.

However, it looked like the recovery was not enough for Garcia as Bogere started the second round from where he left, knocking the Mexican down with a lunging left-hand hit and though he managed to come back, his  combination had little effect as the Uganda dominated.

An impressive Bogere proceeded with minimal challenge, subjecting his opponent to both head and lower body strikes.

Bogere dominated the third and  fourth rounds, leaving Garcia hanging, hoping for a lucky punch to turn his fate around, but it was a little too late as Bogere out-landed Garcia 128 to 37 punches.

In the fifth round, Bogere added more power in his jabs and two straight right combinations gave no option as Garcia staggered and crashed onto the canvas.

The beating was too hard and as the referee counted, the Mexican shook his head not willing to return as Bogere earned his 18th knockout courtesy of referee  Mike Marvelle’s count-to-ten.
