The Minister for Agriculture, Tress Bucyanayandi, is set to re-launch agricultural competitions among farmers in the countryside

The competitions, which were launched last year are meant to reward best performers in livestock and agricultural production.

“We have organised another event to re-launch the competitions again this year and the event is slated to take place today at the UMA Hall in Lugogo, Kampala,” said Anthony Wanyoto, the National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS) programme spokesperson.

The initiative targets 560 farmers in all districts, 45 at regional level, while nine farmers will be selected at the national level.

Dynapharm-Africa is one of the sponsors of the competitions.
Wanyoto said the competitions will run from February to April and the winner will be  announced in May.

“We were requested by farmers to extend the registration process and we had no option, but to oblige,” he said.
He, however, assured farmers who had sent their coupons that their earlier entries still remain valid. “We received about 5,000 entries, but I advise them to fill and send more coupons to increase their chances of winning,” he added.

Wanyoto said the winner will get a tractor worth sh45m; the first runners up get a kit of irrigation equipment worth sh20m, while the second runners up will get a set of inputs.

The best farmer from each of the nine zones will get sh25m, while the best two extension staff from the winning districts will be rewarded with laptops.
