Rugunda said, among other things, that when the NRM took over power in 1986, it immediately embarked on building the economy which was in a mess.

Saturday Vision carried a story in which the Information and Communication Technology Minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, was misquoted on some of the issues he talked about while explaining the National Resistance Movement(NRM) achievements.

Rugunda said, among other things, that when the NRM took over power in 1986, it immediately embarked on building the economy which was in a mess.

The education sector which was weak has expanded and the private sector is doing so well.

Rugunda also said Uganda supported the liberation of Rwanda, South Sudan and Somalia. He did not say Uganda liberated these countries as it was earlier reported. Rugunda said Uganda was motivated to support Sudan, Somalia and Rwanda because of its commitment to Pan Africanism.

He also said the priority now was for the country to consolidate the gains achieved so far, focus on rapid social and economic transformation and avoid being complacent.

Rugunda said the country needed to deepen its political and economic integration within the region so we could compete globally.
