The She Cranes netball World Cup campaign has continued to gather steam with an additional sh5m from Standard Chartered Bank.

Uganda Netball Federation (UNF) is running a funds drive since last month to help the team participate in the netball showpiece in Sydney, Australia next August.

A day after listening to UNF patron Sarah Nkonge Muwonge’s passionate plea, at the monthly Nile Special USPA dinner on Thursday night, Standard Chartered Bank Head of Corporate Affairs Herbert Zake announced their support of sh5m to the team.

“Thanks for this monthly event that recognises our best sports personalities. We (Standard Chartered Bank) are committing to make a donation of sh5m towards supporting the She Cranes netball team for next year’s World Cup appearance,” Zake said.

StanChart is also a partner in the annual USPA Road Safety campaign. The Nile Special USPA dinner (that comes with sh500,000) in which the She Cranes were crowned the best sports personalities of September at Imperial Royale Hotel, was arguably the most vibrant in recent months as the excited players and UNF officials could not hide their gratitude to USPA.

The She Cranes team captain Peace Proscovia revealed that the reason netball players continue to win the USPA accolades is that they love to be recognised.

Internal affairs spokeswoman, Pamela Ankunda, who attended the dinner said she will help to construct a website for She Cranes fans to contribute to the team.

UNF secretary Annet Kisomose said, “We value every support to the team and USPA deserves recognition for exposing the team to the world.”
