100-year-old Kiboga School gets stove technology

Bukomero Junior School has got an environment friendly energy saving stove, the first of its kind in the school that was formed in 1911 in Bukomero sub-county Kiboga district.

The stove is expected to serve a population of about 400 pupils and will reduce the expenditure of fire wood by about 80 percent while 90 percent reduction on energy consumption.

The stove with technology from Japan is made out of simple local materials at cost of about UGX 1M and was donated by Fukuoka Uganda Friendship Association formed both Ugandans living in Japan and the Japanese people.

The association was formed in 2002 with main objective of promoting friendship, culture and tourism between the two countries in addition to charity activities to needy community in Bukomero sub-county.

According to the head teacher of the school, Grace Opolot the donation came in time when Parliament passed a policy for providing lunch for all pupils.

She added that the school policy of pupils to come with fire wood from home every morning failed when some parents refuse to comply and it was so costly to purchase Lorries of fire wood on open market per term.

She hailed the association for donating stove which is faster, safe and saves for the users and vowed to share this Japanese technology of stove with surrounding schools in the sub-county.

The chairperson of the association, Livingstone Kyeyune said the donation has expanded from putting up a borehole annually to needy communities in the sub-county to give simple and cheaper environment friendly stove to schools.

“Our target is for bigger communities like villages, schools and hospitals among others” he said.
