KHARTOUM, Sudan - Uganda Cranes player Hassan Wasswa is in Khartoum, Sudan for trials with Sudanese giants El Merriekh Football Club.

El Merriekh scouts spotted the midfield kingpin during CECAFA Tusker Challenge Cup where he captained the Cranes to their 13th trophy.

Wasswa flew to Khartoum with another Cranes player Mike Mutyaba, who returns to the club after a six-month spell with domestic side Vipers.

Mutyaba trained with the side to regain fitness following an injury.

“I knew of his trip to Sudan because the same person who consulted us when they were pursuing Mutyaba came back again for Wasswa,” FUFA official Haruna Kyobe said.

Wasswa has been a free agent after he ran out of contract at Turkey League One club Kayseri Erciyesspor earlier this year.

Before the CECAFA competition, Wasswa said that his target was to help Uganda Cranes lift the title and also brighten his chances of securing a fresh professional deal.

“I’m going to do my best as the team captain. I am sure to get a professional contract,” Wasswa said then.
