Police in Kawempe, a notorious suburb, have threatened to severely deal with bar operators in the area for abetting crime and giving sanctuary to criminals.

Addressing a meeting at the Kawempe market police station on Tuesday, the Police boss Hassan Musooba revealed that criminals hide in these bars and they wait to strike under the cover of darkness and even share the loot.

“Many criminals pose as customers in these bars as they wait for darkness to fall so they can terrorise innocent people. Your bars will be closed because you give these criminals sanctuary and later share their loot with you,” Musooba said.

The meeting was attending by among others security personnel and bar operators.

He also accused bar operators who abet violence once their customers get drunk.

He cautioned bar operators to be vigilant and report suspicious activity in the area. He also cautioned musicians who intend to hold concerts in the area to liaise with the Police.

He urged local council authorities to prevail over these bar operators to reduce the rate of crime that is escalating in the area.
