Officials of Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) and soccer governing body FUFA have applauded Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) for their consistency in organising the annual Road Safety campaign.

The campaign meant to create awareness about road carnage in the country will be held in Entebbe on Saturday.

At the same time, USPA members will attend a mass for their departed colleagues at Christ the King Church in Kampala on Thursday.

In 2001, USPA members Leo Kabunga, Kenneth Matovu, Peter Ekarot and Francis Batte died in a road accident in Lugazi.

USPA has held prayers to remember the deceased and also runs the Road Safety campaign annually.

At the prayers, USPA members also honour the body’s other members who have passed on.

UOC president William Blick and his FUFA counterpart Moses Magogo said they will give moral support towards various activities that USPA has lined up for the Road Safety campaign.

“Sports journalism plays a role in the growth of the industry and as UOC, we need to pray for the souls of the departed journalists whose contribution would have continued to make change,” Blick said.

Meanwhile, Standard Chartered Bank on Wednesday gave USPA sh4m for the 13th Road Safety campaign. City Tyres will make their contribution for the same function on Thursday.
