The Government is not trailing the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga, security minister Muruli Mukasa has said.

Muruli said Kadaga is not a threat in any way and the Government had bigger issues such as terrorism, insurgency and economic problems to attend to and, therefore, cannot divert its meagre resources and personnel on trailing Kadaga.

“We deploy according to the imminent threats. Therefore, the speaker does not fall in the category we classify as threats,” he said.

“There is absolutely no reason and basis for her to make such a claim. She is a Speaker of Parliament, a very strong member of the NRM party and there is no record of her being subversive in any way to warrant security to start trailing her,” Muruli added.

“If there is a feeling or perception that we are trailing her, it is as result of unfounded allegations. We would like to dispel the fear as government,” Muruli added.

In an interview with Saturday Vision, Kadaga said: “I am aware that some people are following me.”

She also said despite the fact that she was being trailed, it did not worry her because she was doing her work openly. “I do not do my work in secret.”

Earlier this year, sections of the media were awash with stories that the Speaker had particularly fallen out with President Yoweri Museveni and Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi.

However, both of them moved to dispel the reports and the President organised a meeting in Rwakitura in bid to resolve the distortions that had been created by the media.
