Is Christianity boring?

For some people, walking in the footsteps of Jesus Christ is all they care about in their lives. However, some consider living a Christian life as denying oneself the pleasures of this world

Sunday Vision-For some people, walking in the footsteps of Jesus Christ is all they care about in their lives. However, some consider living a Christian life as denying oneself the pleasures of this world, writes Carol Kezaabu

Many Christians describe the day they turned to Christ as the happiest day of their lives. In some instances, their friends forsook them because the Christian lifestyle is often perceived as self-righteous and boring. Others feel that by following the teachings of Christianity, life as they know it might as well be over.

The difficulty is that, if you are not a believer in Christ, you truly do not know what you are talking about. Perceptions are just that – perceptions.

Pastor Moses Mukisa of Worship Harvest ministries, says the life of a Christian is the opposite of boring. The idea that Christianity is a set of rules is perhaps the most misconstrued understanding of what it means to live in Christ.

“As Christians we live with the assurance that God paid the price for our sins and failures. Our lives are about letting Him take control, so that we can be free of burden,” he says.

“It is not about the dos and don’ts. Once people learn that, they will live a fulfilled life, with a lot of fun,” Mukisa adds.
Becky (other name withheld) says being a Christian, the worldly perception of fun does not interest her.

“If alcohol, sex out of wedlock and violence are what constitutes fun in your world, then this is not something I want anyway. Immorality and drunkenness are not the way God intended us to live,” she says.

“We cannot live our lives without regard to consequences and if that is your idea of fun, then Christianity will always be boring,” Becky adds.

Besides that, what is boredom? Fun by itself is a highly subjective concept.
