Police in Masaka are stranded with the remains of a man whose body was found dumped in a wetland in Butenga Sub-county, Bukomansimbi district.

The remains of the deceased man were found by workers clearing the flooded road at Meru village in Butenga Sub-county.

The Southern Regional Police Commander, Simon Peter Wafana, told the Press that they have so far failed to identify personal details regarding the deceased.

He said the remains include a skull, lower limb and bones. He said the remains were wrapped in a pair of jeans, underwear and shirt.

Police handed over the remains of the deceased to the Masaka Regional Referral Hospital mortuary staff.

Wafana said that they have waited for anyone who could have lost a relative to come and check the remains in vain.

“We expect any relative to come so that we can have a DNA test for the deceased to be buried decently,” he said.

A police detective attached to Masaka Central Police Station, Moses Nyanzi, said the deceased might have been murdered two months ago and dumped in the wetland.

Paul Kavuma, one of the locals who reported to Police over the matter, said he saw a shirt floating in the wetland only to discover remains of the body remains underneath it on November 6.
