Police in Buikwe district are holding a 24-year-old man who beheaded his 65-year old mother accusing her of bewitching him.

Police identified the suspect as Bosco Ssenkanja, a resident of Kawuulu village in Buikwe Town Council.

Police said Ssenkanja confessed he had a misunderstanding with his mother, Margaret Bakiyigga, which sparked off a chase during which he butchered her.

Police said Ssenkanja suspected his mother of bewitching him. Using a sharp panga, he chopped her several times on the neck killing her instantly.

“When Bakiyigga saw her son with a panga, she tried to run but he gave chase until he got her and butchered her,” said Patrick Owor, the officer in charge, Buikwe Police Station.

Owor said that after killing his mother, as he headed to Buikwe trading center, he met Mathias Amede his neighbour and also cut him seriously injuring him.  Amede was later rushed and admitted at Kawolo hospital.

Police said that when the locals learnt of the incident, they pounced on him but were in the nick of time to rescue him.

Some residents said the suspect is a drug addict. But the suspect said he was possessed by evil spirits by the time he committed the offence.

Owor said the suspect will be charged with murder. He said they will take him for a medical examination before taking him to Court.
