Impressed with the popularity of kick-boxing in Uganda but dismayed by the inadequate knowledge about the sport among fighters and officials, Canada based Ugandan trainer Phillip Ndugga will soon lend a hand.

Ndugga told New Vision in an interview that the massive turn out of spectators at kickboxing fights, a wide local television audience and promising fighters are an indicator of a sport that would develop quickly if technique and knowledge are improved upon.

“When I come to Uganda I am always busy with my humanitarian work with the Ssuubi Foundation - Canada of which I am one of the founding directors.

"I could probably organise a kick-boxing clinic, of course with the blessing of all the stakeholders like the kick-boxing association here and National Council of Sports,” Ndugga explained.

Ndugga, who was a kick-boxer until 2010 when he retired to concentrate on being a trainer said he would, besides the education initiative with disadvantaged children, give back to the sport that propelled him to his current success.

The elite kick-boxing trainer will make use of his goodwill with global kick-boxing organisations and personalities to secure technical assistance for Uganda.

Ndugga used to run Powerflex Gym at Mengo before he left for Canada over ten years ago.
